Hot tub death ruled a homicide
Friendswood Police are proceeding with the investigation into the death of a 31-year-old woman found floating in a hot tub on Sunday, Dec. 28.
The Galveston County Medical Examiner has made a preliminary ruling that the death was a homicide.
The woman, identified as Francisca Marie Calkins, was found in the outside hot tub at approximately noon by a resident of the home in the 200 block of Chester Drive.
Investigators believe that the victim was residing at the residence at the time of her death. Police and EMS personnel responded to a call of an accidental drowning at approximately 12:17 p.m. on Dec. 28 and found the victim unresponsive.
Injuries on the victim's body led police to believe that the victim may have suffered a physical assault. It is not known how long she had been in the water.
Based on investigative leads, police officials do not believe that the homicide was a random act or a crime of opportunity.
