Police report
West University police are investigating the burglary of a residence in the 3000 block of Amherst Street. A resident summoned officers to the home at about 6:15 p.m. Christmas day to report that items were missing from the garage.
Someone broke into an unlocked vehicle parked curbside in the 2800 block of Albans Street sometime between 3:45-4:30 p.m. on Dec. 22 and removed more than $11,800 in items, police reported.
A locked vehicle parked in a business lot in the 6700 block of Stella Link Road was broken into through the passenger-side window sometime between 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 23. Officers said a satellite radio was stolen.
West University police were called to two locations Christmas day to pick up stray bicycles. The first was in the 2600 block of Fenwood Street, reported at about 10:30 in the morning. The second was reported shortly after 6 p.m. in the 3500 block of Corondo Court. Neither had been reported as missing, so they were brought to the police department for safekeeping.
A jogger filed an animal bite report with West University police shortly after noon on Dec. 23. He said he was bitten by a dog being walked on a leash as he ran in the area of Plumb and Charlotte streets.
West University officers took a suspected drunken driver into custody shortly after 10 p.m. Dec. 22 while investigating an accident scene in the 2700 block of University Boulevard. The woman said she “looked down” and hit a parked car, according to the police report, but officers evaluated her and believed alcohol was a factor.
West University police reported that drinking too much landed two people in custody in recent days, in separate incidents in the 2600 block of Bissonnet Street.
The first occurred just after midnight Dec. 19. Officers were called to a business to remove a woman who refused to leave. As she was being escorted out, she reportedly tried to strike the manager with her hand. She was arrested for public intoxication.
In the second, a cab driver flagged down an officer shortly after 2 a.m. Dec. 24 to report an intoxicated man had tried to get into his vehicle and drive off. An officer located the man and judged that he was so severely intoxicated that he could be a danger to himself or others if left attended. He went peaceably when he was taken into custody, police reported.
Two separate incidents yielded three drug arrested in recent days in West University Place.
An officer investigating a group of juveniles in the 3700 block of Nottingham just after midnight on Dec. 21 with alcohol in plain view wound up arresting one adult for possession of marijuana and a juvenile for possession of a controlled substance. Another adult was taken into custody for possession of a fictitious driver’s license.
An officer on patrol shortly before 1 a.m. Dec. 24 observed a similar scene: a group of minors standing around a parked vehicle in the 2600 block of Amherst Street with a can of beer and two purses on the hood. According to the police report, one purse contained marijuana, and a suspect was taken into custody.
