Heading into the Christmas break, the only girl’s team we know of for sure to be 2-0 in District 24-5A is Clear Creek. The Lady Wildcats took a close 61-57 win over visiting Dickinson last Friday. Clear Lake might also have moved to 2-0 as the Lady Falcons played in Alvin but no score was reported from Alvin so we can’t tell right now.
Also on Friday night Clear Springs evened its district mark to 1-1 by defeating Galveston Ball 60-44.
Clear Brook, however, saw its district mark go to 1-1 after being edged by Brazoswood 46-45. The Lady Bucs, who played Alvin in the first district game on Tuesday, could be either 1-1 or 2-0 since no score was reported from that game.
The Wildcats actually found themselves trailng the Lady Gators 47-44 heading into the fourth quarter but outscored the opposition 17-10 in the final period. Creek had built a 37-28 halftime lead before Dickinson rallied in the third quarter.
Lady Wildcat Chelsea Soloninka led all scorers with 21 points. Jasmine Lee and Kaylin Dugie each had 13 points for Creek. Javonne Anderson led the Gators with 17 points.
Clear Creek is 11-5 on the season while Dickinson fell to 1-11.
Clear Springs (6-9 overall) outscored Ball with each succeeding period while building a 31-25 halftime lead. From there the Lady Chargers extended their margin.
Morgan Kilgore led the Chargers with 11 points. Dallis Cannon and Mileka Loydrake each had 10 points.
Visiting Brazoswood led from start to finish but had to withstand a Lady Wolverine rally in the fourth quarter for the close win. The Bucs led 25-17 at the half and 37-29 heading into the fourth. Brook staged its rally but fell one point short of sending the game into overtime.
No games are scheduled this week because of the Christmas break, but the girls resume play just before New Year’s.
Clear Brook’s girls will host Elkins on Tuesday, Dec. 30. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
Clear Creek will be in action in the Duncanville Tournament Dec. 29-31.
Clear Lake is off until Jan. 2 when the girls will resume district play by hosting Clear Brook.
Clear Springs will play in the Alvin Christmas Classic Dec. 27-30.
We hope to have more next week. In the meantime check our website www.bayareacitizen.com for the latest updates.
