Decorating with nature

Updated: 12.23.08
On a chilly Saturday morning, the annual “Decorating with Nature” outdoor series brought families and friends to the William Goodrich Jones State Forest to enjoy its natural winter beauty. Set among the gardens at the Jones State Forest, everyone enjoyed listening to Christmas music and drinking hot apple cider while making festive holiday decorations from native flora found around the forest.

This nature series was sponsored by Texas Forest Service, Lone Star College – Montgomery (Adult Leisure Learning), Heartwood Chapter Texas Master Naturalists, Devon Energy and Chevron. Additionally, the 50 or so people attending learned how important being outdoors in nature plays bringing families and community collectively and in helping facilitate overall good health and well-being. The Jones State Forest is listed by the Audubon Society as one of the 500 most important birding areas in North America because the forest is home to the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker.
