Sterling Bank to open new Kingwood banking center

Sterling Bank recently announced it has entered into a 10-year lease with Northpark Shopping Center Plaza LP for a new Kingwood banking center.

This new 3,803-square-foot facility and 1,392-square-foot drive-through, which will open in January, is in an office building nearing completion in the Northpark Shopping Plaza between Kingwood Drive and Northpark Drive on U.S. Highway 59. It replaces a smaller, older Sterling office in the same area.

“We’re delighted to be able to offer our Kingwood-area customers the convenience and elegance of this new, expanded Kingwood banking center,” said Downey Bridgwater, chairman, president and CEO of Sterling.

“We needed the additional space to accommodate our growth in Kingwood and to better serve our customers in the area, and what a great space it will be.”

A small business, whose mission is to help other small businesses grow, was selected the 2008 Small Business of the Year by the Lone Star College System. GrowthForce received the honor at the 22nd Annual Small Business Development Center Advisory Council Small Business Awards Banquet held on Nov. 20 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel.

GrowthForce won for the Lone Star College-Kingwood service area based on its accomplishments in four categories: business achievements, contributions to the community, references and application essay. There were 130 businesses nominated for the award and one winner for each of the five colleges in the Lone Star College System.

GrowthForce, an outsourced bookkeeping and accounting services firm, was founded in Kingwood, Texas, by Stephen King, a certified public accountant with three decades of experience in the accounting industry.

The company is not a traditional CPA firm, but rather uses its advanced QuickBooks® expertise to deliver Fortune 500 quality accounting services and systems for small businesses. Since its opening in 2004, GrowthForce has succeeded in doubling its revenues every six months achieving more than $1 million in revenues.

As part of GrowthForce’s contributions to the community, King has been active in the Kingwood Chamber of Commerce, the Humble Area Chamber of Commerce, the Houston CPA Society Northeast Satellite, Houston Technology Center, Lake Houston Family YMCA and the Village Learning and Achievement Center as a member of its board of directors.

In accepting the award, King acknowledged that “helping to share business knowledge and best practices” with other small businesses has led to this success. He credited his staff for the company’s performance: “It’s not the CEO who keeps clients happy; it’s the talent of his staff. We are here because our clients love us – and the results we create for their businesses.”

Citizens Bank building in Humble honored by IBAT

The Citizens Bank building in Humble was honored with a Silver Eagle Award in the annual Best of Community Banking competition by the Independent Bankers Association of Texas (IBAT).

The award was presented during IBAT’s 34th annual convention and recognized the Humble location of the Kilgore-based independent community bank for the architectural design of the building which officially opened to the public on July 2, 2007.

Present to accept the award was James L. “Jamey” Smith, the Houston Region CEO and Humble Banking Center CEO for Citizens Bank. Representing Jim Singleton Architects were Jim Singleton and Wade Zimmer who designed the building. Frost Construction, a Humble-based company, was the contractor for the project.

The four-story bank building dominates the landscape for those driving down FM 1960 just a mile west of Highway 59. Its unique and ornate architecture sets the bank building apart from any of the surrounding structures.

Singleton designed the building, which is the first ground-up facility that Citizens Bank has built since the financial institution was founded in 1949. The main bank in Kilgore moved into a remodeled hotel, and the other locations have been placed in existing buildings. The bank is also constructing a location in The Woodlands that should open in late 2008 or early 2009 and will be likely be constructing a building in College Station in the near future.

In Humble, however, the four-story 45.000 square foot building – the bank occupies approximately 7,500 square feet of the total space – is accentuated by a 30 by 40-foot limestone entryway, 14-foot ceilings and large windows.

Led by Smith, a longtime resident of the Humble-Kingwood area, Citizens Bank promotes the economic growth and quality of life of the community by providing services that are competitively priced and designed to meet a diverse range of financial needs.

The Citizens Bank in Humble is located at 8811 FM1960 Bypass Road W., Humble, Texas 77338. For more information, call 281-446-4445.
