Baywood schedules one last tournament
By ROY N. KENT
Jan. 1 each year marks new beginnings. But this Jan. 1 will close the book on the history of Pasadena’s Baywood Country Club.
“It’s not only a loss for Pasadena, it’s a loss for Harris County,” said John Collins, in charge of marketing for the golf course.
With the facility making way for a new apartment complex at 5500 Genoa Red Bluff in south Pasadena, the golf course is making the most of its final days.
The “Last Hurrah” Golf Tournament and Party is scheduled for Dec. 19. It is open to members, past members, patrons and friends.
Tee time will be at 11 a.m. The format is a four-man scramble. Prizes include “historic keepsake trophies” for the top three places.
A barbecue buffet will be served at 5 p.m. The cost for the event is $40 per person.
The dinner is free to all golfers and those who RSVP for the party only.
Anyone wishing to play at the course one last time must pre-register for the tournament and/or party. Contact Collins at 832-326-3445 or via e-mail at jcollins@baywoodcc.com.
Baywood Country Club opened its doors in 1954. Humble Oil opened the course for its employees and it was the first country club in Harris County.
Also coming up at the facility is an auction on Jan. 17 and 18, 2009. Old signs, memorabilia and club equipment are expected to be on the auction block, along with many other items. More information will be made available at a later date.
