Residents sound off on Thanksgiving
By ROYCELYN BASTIAN
While some people are still feeling the affects of Hurricane Ike, there are many who are putting aside those thoughts to give thanks for what they have this holiday season.
Passing out holiday meals to families in East Montgomery County, Michael Flores gave his thoughts on Thanksgiving:
“It is great to come out and help those who have needs and help them have a happy Thanksgiving,” Flores, an 11th-grader at Porter Christian Academy, said. “This year, I am thankful for my family, a great church and a peaceful home.”
Flores’ classmate, Chris Spears, an 11th-grader, said he was also thankful to be able to help others have a happy holiday. He said he is fortunate and thankful to have a good family and a happy home.
New Caney resident Paul Hammons believes Thanksgiving is a time for families to get together.
“My Thanksgiving wish for everyone is that everyone, especially children, are fed,” Hammons said. “The hurricane really hurt a lot of people. I hope everyone is able to have a warm meal.”
Mingling with friends and enjoying her Thanksgiving meal, Melba McIntyre, a Splendora resident, said she is grateful to still be alive.
“I pray for my health and for my family’s health this year,” she said. “I am extremely thankful for my church, my family and friends.”
