Township’s credit rating improves
By T.L. HAMILTON
The Woodlands Township’s credit ratings have been bumped up a notch, financial consultant Brian Pate said at the board meeting Wednesday.
The township is now rated A plus with Standard and Poor’s and A3 with Moody’s. The rating had decreased in mid-February.
“Over the last couple of weeks we have been trying to update Standard and Poor’s and Moody’s on how the world has changed in respect to the township,” Pate said. “I’m proud to say that this time we’ve received rating upgrades from both of those agencies.”
The township voted to continue a service agreement with the Greater Houston Partnership to provide economic development services for another year at a cost of $25,000.
The partnership works to keep the global market aware of resources and business in the Houston area, and has included an article about the township in an upcoming issue of “Opportunity Houston Magazine.” A teaser to the township’s article is featured on the magazine cover.
“We are so proud of what you’re doing and brag about this beautiful gateway to the region quite often,” said Jeff Mosely, partnership president.
Fred Dominick, general manager of The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center, said he is projecting a “soft year” for 2009 bookings. Dominick said that while the hotel lost room bookings due to the hurricane, it quickly regained bookings for groups like insurance companies who needed rooms at short notice. Because of that, the hotel did not lose revenue.
