Pumpkin Patch

It won’t be business as usual for United Equities, Inc. on Oct. 25 as the commercial real estate company uses one of its empty lease spaces to raise money for a good cause.

The company is transforming a lease spot in the Sugar Creek Village Shopping Center, formerly occupied by Hollywood Video, into a Pumpkin Patch to help raise funds for Dulles High School Project Graduation.

The one-day free community event, scheduled from9 a.m. - 4 p.m., will include pumpkins of all sizes and feature music, face painting and fun for the entire family.

The cost of pumpkins will vary by size, with an additional fee charged to event goers who want to decorate pumpkins on site.

Executives and managers at the company arrived at the idea of a pumpkin patch while exploring ideas for seasonal activities aimed at bringing neighboring families to the center, said Executive Administrator Linda Mader.

“The idea of a Pumpkin Patch was the overwhelming idea, as we are hoping to reach those young families with children.”

“We also wanted to benefit one of the local schools,” said Mader.

Dulles High School seniors and their parents will work as volunteers during the event, selling pumpkins and coordinating entertainment and decorating activities.

Word of the event was announced at the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce Network Nites and on signs in each of the businesses located in the shopping center, as well as on windows of the vacant lease space.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Dulles High ProGrad.

In addition to helping with a good cause, coordinators hope to re-introduce the community to the various businesses and restaurants that are located there, said Mader.

The commercial real estate company is exploring similar plans for the Christmas holidays.
