Seabrook hostsrebuild meeting

The Seabrook Building Department encourages property owners to attend a Post-Ike Residential Restoration meeting, Monday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Seabrook Intermediate School Auditorium.

Topics include compliance with the flood ordinance, what constitutes “substantial damage” and the potentially increased cost of compliance.

League City has job openings


The City of League City is currently accepting applications for vacant position on several boards and commissions.

Interested candidates can obtain a list of vacancies and fill out an application with the City Secretary’s Office at City Hall.

Fundraiser to help Equusearch

Texas Equusearch is holding a fundraiser at the VFW in Dickinson on Saturyda, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m.

Texas Equusearch, led by Tim Miller, is known worldwide for its mission of helping families find missing loved ones.

Live bands, live auction, food and games are a few of the activities included in the fundraiser festivities.

The VFW is located on 5204 Highway 3 in Dickinson. For more information call 281-309-9500.

Tax rate voteslated Oct. 14

League City Council is scheduled to adopt its proposed tax rate of 63 cents per $100 in property value at its regular meeting next Tuesday, Budget Officer Kelly Halko said.

The current tax rate is 60.88 cents per $100.

The council adopted its budget for Fiscal Year 2009 on Sept. 30, she said. The budget includes nearly $46.79 million in general fund expenditures and is balanced using about $2.8 million in reserves.

In previous meetings, some on council had suggested raising taxes by up to 5 cents to reduce the amount of reserves used, but Councilmen Tommy Cones and Chris Samuelson have said they will not vote for a tax increase.

District 22 debate set

BAHEP invites the public to attend a candidates’ debate between U.S. Rep. Nick Lampson and his opponent, Pete Olson, on Monday, Oct. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the Bay Oaks Country Club, 14545 Bay Oaks Blvd. in Houston.

Following a reception, the forum will begin at 6 p.m. and conclude at 7 p.m. Seating is limited. To RSVP, call Harriet Lukee at 281-486-5535.
