Lady Indians’ volleyball victory stolen by Pirates
By WAYNE RHYMES
The Lady Indians went back to action last Tuesday coming off their break caused by Hurricane Ike. Their first goal was to try to advance to 2-0 in district by beating a good Shepherd team.
Although the Lady Pirates are 0-1 in district, they always stand a chance with the spectacular Jodie Chreene defensive efforts.
The Lady Indians had another concern as they had to play without senior captain and star setter Kayla Hilton due to a left foot injury that sidelined her for the game.
The Lady Indians couldn’t overcome these situations. They fell short to the Lady Pirates in three games 27-25, 25-12 and 25-23. The absence of Kayla Hilton put a lot of pressure on Carla Woods and Serile Wilridge.
Coach Pittman needed the same energy and passion that the Lady Indians played with their first win, not just in district but overall. This win was against Coldspring.
“It wasn’t the same team,” Coach Pittman said.
The Lady Indians played very flat and didn’t have any presence, and the Lady Pirates took full advantage of it.
“It was a win for us. We didn’t play our level but it has been chaotic with us not having a gym to practice in, but we are making the most of it,” Coach Trevino for the Pirates said.
The Lady Indians have to rebound from this loss and move on because they have four district games in a row, all at home. They could easily find themselves at the bottom looking up fast as they now must host the district’s elite four teams.
The Indians played Tarkington at home on Tuesday, but due the paper’s delivery schedule, the results will be in next week’s paper.
Huffman comes to town on Wednesday, Splendora on Thursday and Liberty on Friday. The Friday game will go back to normal as varsity will play first, followed by junior varsity and freshman.
