First Top-10 points delivered on lanes for ladies

Hurricane Ike put a crimp in the momentum generated by the start to a brand-new bowling season in town.

Just when the season was enjoying its first two weeks of action, along came Ike, literally wiping out last week’s action at Armadilla I Lanes.

So the scores posted in this week’s Strikes and Spares are from the leagues that got in games two weeks ago. The only news as far as the Top-10 list is concerned is the first points on the women’s side.

Heather Jones, a Top-10 finisher in 2007, scored her first 25 points of the new campaign when she enjoyed a 715 series in the Sparetime Mixed League. Any female bowler that rolls the three-game total of 700 or better scores 25 points. Her best game on this particular night was a splendid 258 game.

On the men’s side in the Sparetime Mixed League, Frank Vela employed a 278 game that led to a league-best 738 series. However, Darren Reeves finished one pin better in grabbing high-game honors. It led to a 716 series. James Medearis used a 274 game that led to a 708 series and James Long scratched out a 279 game to tie Darren for high-game honors. It allowed James to go home with a 706 series. Manny Garcia captured a 703 series to round out the fine pre-Hurricane Ike scores.

In the latecomers League, Dale Biehl sizzled in scoring a 290 game, allowing Dale to bag a splendid 744 series. James Long was the only other male player to corner a 700 series, nabbing a 709 series. For the women, Angie Burris collected a 241 game and 658 series.

Play in the SCORA League featured Wiley Maris’ 698 series and 258 game as well as Penny Bilski’s 533 series.

In the Rebels League, Lindle Kincannon enjoyed a 673 series, helped by a 268 game. For the ladies in Rebels, Jean Cope scored a 233 game and 581 series.

There was no change in the men’s Top-10 standings. The three leaders are George Clark, who leads with 25 points for the 299 game he rolled in Week 1. Rusty Zurovec and Rusty Davis are tied for second place with 15 points for their three-game series score that landed between a 775-799 tally.

But the 2008-2009 season is still waiting for the big payoffs. That would be 40 points for a 300 game and 50 points for a rare 800 series. Now with Ike having thrown his gutter ball, the leagues and its players will be chasing bigger top-10 points in the weeks ahead.
