A K-9 unit in the local police department was utilized to successfully conduct a track on a felony evading suspect for a neighboring police department.

Robby, one of the Pasadena Police Department’s K-9 units, successfully tracked 30-year-old Manuel Infante Jr. of Baytown for the Deer Park Police Department in the early hours of Monday, Sept. 1.

Pasadena Police Department Public Information Officer Vance Mitchell said officers were dispatched to a trailer park at the 4700 block of Glenwood in Deer Park in regards to a felony evading suspect.

“Upon our arrival, we were told that after a short vehicle pursuit which ended at the trailer park, two suspects exited the vehicle and ran on foot,” Mitchell said. “After a short struggle, the driver was taken into custody. The passenger of the vehicle continued to run northbound in the trailer park and was still missing.”

Deer Park Police Department Lt. Wade Conner said they apprehended Infante.

“After the short car chase, the suspect jumped out of his vehicle and ran,” he said.

After Robby was on the suspect’s scent, officers were able to locate him.

“At one point the suspect ran into a chain-linked fence,” said Conner. “He tussled with Officer Ward and got away from him but Officer Ward was able to catch him a second time.”

Conner said when officers got the suspect to the ground they realized that he was concealing drugs.

“He had 995 grams of cocaine hidden in his sock,” he said. “That’s just under one kilo.”

Infante was charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, program 1, over 400 grams and is currently being detained in the Harris County jail without bond.

He is scheduled to appear in State District Court 209 on Oct. 3.
