Family and friends of young Christian LaCombe celebrated his life Saturday in Clear Lake Park, releasing hundreds of red balloons in his memory.

The 3-year-old Seabrook boy died Aug. 13 when he was accidentally left all day in a parked car at the business center at 421 E. NASA Parkway in Webster.

His grandmother, Donna Chesser, told police she was supposed to drop the child off at a daycare center but forgot he was in the car when she got to work just east of Highway 3.

Webster Police Capt. Thomas Claunch said the call reporting the unconscious child came in at 5:45 p.m., when Chesser returned to her car at the end of the workday and found the toddler.

The boy's mother, Dolores Estes, joined the group at the park, where the balloons were released as a final goodbye.

The family noted that red was Christian's favorite color and that they hope to make the balloon release an annual event at the park, which was Christian's favorite place to play.

A Harris County grand jury will determine if Chesser will face any charges, police said.

Christian was one of two toddlers who died in a two-day span after being accidentally forgotten and left in hot cars.

Another was reported when a mother forgot her 3-year-old son in the back seat and went to work at the North Cypress Medical Center in Northwest Houston.

Evidence showed that he had struggled to get out of the vehicle as temperatures soared.

As a result of the two fatalities, police urged parents to have some means of reminding them that children were in the backseat, such as putting a purse beside the child or having a teddy bear on the front seat as a reminder.
